Re:set (youth ministry)

re:set – re:set is GrX’s Youth Ministry. This stage of ministry focuses on building relationships, helping students to navigate the transition from elementary school and into high school, reinforcing key elements of the Christian story, and looking to find our place in it.

About re:set

Remember those old, first run Nintendo consoles? Maybe not. There were times when you were playing Super Mario Bros., or Contra (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start!), and the game would freeze. You’d have to press re:set, lose your progress, pull out the cartridge, blow in it, and put it back in. It was a hard re:set. Forget the former things. Have to start on something new.

While NES was a bit annoying, it is refreshing that God does the same thing for us. Isaiah tells us in chapter 43 and verses 18 and 19 that God is doing a “new thing.” He says:

“Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”

Essentially, for the people of Israel and for us today, God has hit the re:set button. You don’t have to worry about what came before. God is doing a new thing – is re:setting – who we are, our world, and creating something new within us.

That’s what we’re about at re:set. Exploring the new thing God is doing in us, and how that affects us in God’s world.
